Equipment
This is where is used to talk about converting to digital…back in the day when it used to be a big deal. My wife and I started in 2000 using digital on the Kern River shooting white water rafting trips. Within a couple years the rest of the photography companies followed suit. It was difficult making it work at first and I look back and I am amazed we managed to make it work. It seems so rudimentary compared to the technology we have today. I used to be a big gear head but lately I have been heading in the opposite direction. As I prefer to shoot in more remote locations, requiring a pack on my back and a week’s worth of supplies I now prefer the minimalist approach. With that said, I will not leave the tripod sitting in the closet regardless of my weight. I am a Canon guy and have been using their equipment since I became serious about photography. Don’t worry, if you shoot Nikon I will still talk to you. In my opinion, its Chevys and Fords (I drive a Toyota). Who cares what I shoot with or what you shoot with, as long as we get out and shoot and make photos that inspire and motivate ourselves, family and/or the world.
Accomplishments and Publications
I have won some awards and my photographs have been published in a variety of media: news sources, books, magazines, calendars, advertising and various websites. Despite all of this I still feel like a beginner and I am always learning something new.
Update
In an effort to help abolish the stigma of Bakersfield being the “armpit” of California, I participated in a contest put on by El Tejon Ranch and the Bakersfield Californian titled Capture Kern County. In doing so three of my photos were chosen including a wildflower shot gracing the cover. Hopefully, this book opens eyes and eliminates some of the BO:)
